This is a great achievement and we’d like to congratulate all the schools, staff, children and parents in achieving the best SATs results ever. The figures show that primary schools in Leicester are making significant progress and the city jumped 14 places in the national league tables.

It is with great sadness that the passing away of the City Mayor’s wife, Lady Alison Soulsby, was reported today after a short illness.

The Leicester Labour Party would like to express it’s deepest sympathies and condolences to Peter and his family. It is a very great loss and we’d like to pay tribute to Alison for her very great contribution over many years to Leicester, the Labour Party and most importantly to her family.

She will be greatly missed.

Cllr Leon Spence, leader of the Labour Group at North West Leicestershire District Council, reveals on his blog that the NHS reorganisation plans will mean the Leicestershire & Rutland PCT being asked to set aside £36 million this year and next. This is money that will not be going into treating people even though the local health service is seeing waiting times going up 65% for patients waiting longer than 18 weeks.
