Cllr Leon Spence, leader of the Labour Group at North West Leicestershire District Council, reveals on his blog that the NHS reorganisation plans will mean the Leicestershire & Rutland PCT being asked to set aside £36 million this year and next. This is money that will not be going into treating people even though the local health service is seeing waiting times going up 65% for patients waiting longer than 18 weeks.

Jon Ashworth MP has been trying, in vain, to find out when the Prime Minister David Cameron last met a young unemployed person. The PM and Chancellor, George Osborne, are avoiding answering this question but as journalist Kevin Maguire puts it “Because they can’t hide for ever from the young workless – they are the human cost of the Government’s failed policies.”

At today’s Prime Minister’s Questions, Ed Miliband, called on David Cameron to set up a public inquiry into the phone hacking allegations and to look at the wider ethical questions in British print journalism. Ed Miliband has outlined his views on the phone hacking allegations in a blogpost, calling these claims “grotesque”. The News of the World is alleged to have hacked into the phone of murdered teenager Milly Dowler, causing extreme hurt and pain to her family and friends. It has also emerged that families of victims of 7/7 might also have had their phones intercepted, which plunges the whole saga to new and more depressing depths.
Now is the time to get to the truth and for prosecutions to be bought by the police if it is found illegal activities have occurred.Continue Reading »
The Guardian Newspaper is reporting that David Cameron has spent £680,000 of tax-payers cash on renovating 10 Downing Street, including £30,000 on a new kitchen in the No.11 Flat. Details obtained from freedom of information requests by Labour MP, Tom Watson, have revealed the hypocrisy of the the Prime Minister and his Government. Whilst Councils like Leicester are facing large, front-loaded cuts to public services and ordinary people are seeing their living standards being eaten into, there seems to be a different set of rules in this time austerity for David Cameron.
