Liz Kendall MP, who was previously a shadow health minister, was yesterday promoted by Ed Miliband to be shadow minister for Social Care and Older People with the right to attend the shadow cabinet. It is recognition of Liz’s hard work in holding the Tory led Government to account on it’s disastrous NHS Reforms. She has played a key role in scrutinising the NHS Bill through its committee stages and brings a great depth of knowledge on social and care policy to her new role.

This is a hugely important area and shows Labour is committed to moving this issue up the political agenda.

Liz is part of a new generation of talented and in touch MPs which have been promoted by Ed Miliband and you can see a full list of the shadow cabinet here.

The Leicester Mercury has an article on Liz’s appointment and John McTernan has written an article for the Telegraph entitled “Labour’s reshuffle gives David Cameron even more of a woman problem”, and Martin Bright writing in the Spectator calls it a “A genuinely New Generation”.
