Kirit Mistry
I have been a Labour voter since age of 18 and a Labour party member and served as the BAME Officer and currently vice chair of Leicester South CLP.
I am currently chair and founder of south Asian health action (SahaUK), a community led charity working in Belgrave on health inequalities projects on cancer, hypertension, respiratory, diabetes , organ donation, blood donation , kidney disease and mental health.
I also sit on a number of NHS, academic and research organisations to ensure equality , diversity and inclusion. I have over 35 years of experience in working in community engagement, heath inequalities and Race Equality.
Hersh Thaker
I grew up in Belgrave and have been actively engaged in community work for many years. I previously represented Leicester as a Youth Councillor and a Youth Parliament member.
With my expertise as a local campaigner, I have achieved significant milestones, such as collaborating with the city council to provide unused council buildings as study spaces for students during exams.
I founded Leicester SOUP, a community fundraising project that helps action projects receive funding. I have also contributed to the development of education as a local authority governor for Rushey Mead Primary School and am presently the Chair of Governors at Cedars Academy.
I have a Politics, Philosophy & Economics degree and work for a global energy company focusing on building charging infrastructure and services for electric vehicle drivers.
I am an ardent advocate for making the city a clean, accessible, and safe place to live. I regularly contribute to literature on climate, technology, and cities. Furthermore, I have been a part of various interfaith initiatives and was one of the founding members of the Hindu Climate Action initiative.
I am affiliated with the Labour SERA group and Labour Friends of India.
Gurinder Athwal
I have two teenage boys who have both studied Economics & Business management at university. I am an energetic, vibrant individual with a strong work ethic.
I have worked in the public sector for 25 years, starting off at Ofsted then working with The UK Border Agency. I have also worked for The Justice Service and The Mental Health Tribunals Service which I thoroughly enjoyed. I am currently working for the Ministry of Justice at Leicester Magistrates Court as a manager for the Legal Team who are responsible for the Magistrates. I am a good motivator and team builder, with good listening skills.
I would like to become a Labour councillor to be able to voice and serve the community, make sure all concerns are looked into and resolved as possible. I would like to build the trust and relationship within the community and bring back the trust that has been lost with regular surgeries and set up community groups. To me, the community come first and I want to reassure them that they matter and their concerns are being heard.
I am an active party member. I have been an agent for the 3 councillors in Knighton. I ran the election office on election day. I have helped with general elections and local elections campaigning alongside my colleagues. I have distributed leaflets when needed, and helped with door knocking. My aim is to work together and we will endeavour to do our best and help the people in Leicester and gain a majority to keep Labour at the top.
I have ran the Oadby Panjabi School as head teacher working with children aged 5 years to 16 years. Also I arrange summer school camps and out of school clubs for all children aged 5 years to 16 years.
I am also a registrar conducting civil weddings at the Oadby Sikh Temple
