Hanif Aqbany
I am a sitting Councillor and also a resident within Wycliffe Ward.
I am a carer for my elderly and frail mother who is also blind. I care for her during the mornings (until 14hrs) every day and thereafter my wife takes over when she returns from work.
I have been a member of Labour Party for just over 30 years and have been a Councillor since May 2007 representing Spinney Ward and thereafter Wycliffe Ward. Personally I am a resident within the ward.
I joined the Labour Party for it’s core values being Equality, Fairness and Social Justice. I have been a loyal party member.
We re-took the ward from Liberal Democrats through a fierce ballot fight and have retained it with massive votes.
During my term, I held a portfolio position leading Housing for a year. Thereafter, I have preferred to remain a back bencher as it has allowed me flexibility and freedom to dedicate and focus on constituents and community groups within our patch.
We have two large Councils housing estates and many schools for that reason I have been a member of Housing Scrutiny Commission which is my area of interest.
We face massive challenges due to continued Conservative Government’s austerity measures, which was followed by Covid19 pandemic and its continued consequences. The emergence of serious “cost of living”, fuel poverty having to choose between heating or eating. There is an ever increasing use of foodbanks.
Representing a very diverse and deprived ward, we have continued to invest in our communities and the housing estates, ball courts and play areas for health and wellbeing. We are also investing in highways and transport infrastructure.
I am and have been a safe pair of hands for citizens and community groups of our ward and will ensure that their trust in me is maintained by continuing to be their advocate for Councils services and provisions.
Mohammed Dawood
I was first elected as a Councillor in May 2007 representing Wycliffe ward. My work has always been underpinned with Labour values and I have represented the party dedication and determination for over a decade
Over this period, I have held various portfolio positions, which include Community Safety, HR, Adult Social Care and Housing, as well as different scrutiny positions
I believe that we have numerous challenges arising from the Conservative led austerity agenda where communities have been devastated and much needed services that were used to empower them have vanished. Furthermore, the cost of living, choices between heating or eating, increasing use of foodbanks, poverty, and the long-term effects of covid have are challenges our communities face.
Having one of the most deprived wards, we have continued to invest in our communities on the housing estates, ball parks, highways and developed small grant roots organisations in my ward
I will therefore contribute to advocate for those same communities for those that are less fortunate, to assist them in improving their life chances. In addition, will continue to challenge inequalities for the betterment of the communities I represent.
